Share music folder ONLY

Dear all, I am having the following issue I hope you can help with:

I am running itunes under windows 8. I have setup two users on the same desktop. Only me has iphone / ipad. Installing itunes it has put its libraries under my user account. However, I wish to share ONLY the music files with the other user i.e. for him to able and listen to the same music files directly from his account. I can obviously give him access rights to the folder but I don't really want to do that. The good option would be to place ONLY the music files under the PUBLIC user account - but I don't know how to do this!

I have found some articles / solutions talking about moving the itunes media folder under "public" account  - but this means that other items apart from music is transfered (not desirable). Any suggestions or directions?

Thank you in advance

Music Performance major Krystelle Arneson featured in concert tonight

Krystelle ArnesonKrystelle Arneson will be the featured pianist for the Evangel University Orchestra concert at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, 2013. The event is free and open to the public.

Krystelle Arneson’s mother is pretty wise. She has a piano studio in her home, and while teaching each of her seven children how to play, she also taught them how to teach.

“Mom said if we knew how to teach piano, we would always have a source of supplemental income,” says Krystelle, a junior Music Performance major at Evangel University.

“I started teaching when I was in junior high. I taught the younger siblings of mom’s students,” she says. “It was good experience, and it has paid off. I’ve been able to teach, and make some extra money, all through college.”

Krystelle is the youngest in her family, and she is the third to study music at Evangel.

“For most of my life, I have practiced at least three hours per day,” she says. “I am inclined toward music, but I would be nothing without the practice.”

The Springfield community can judge for themselves tonight, when she will perform one of the toughest concerts of her life. The Evangel University Orchestra will present its spring concert — free and open to the public — at 7:30 p.m. in the University’s Chapel auditorium. The production will feature Krystelle, performing the Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 4.

“Performing with an orchestra brings a totally different dynamic,” she sats. “As a solo performer, I am used to occasionally having a second piano to play off of. But it is different with 50 other instruments on stage.”

Interestingly, Krystelle is the third person in her family to be honored with a solo performance with the Evangel Orchestra. In 2005, her older sister, Rakel, performed the Prokofiev Concerto in D-flat. Then in 2008, second oldest, Chanelle, performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the group.

Asked about other interests, she laughed and said, “I don’t have much of a life outside of music.” That explains why, in her spare time, she performs in a folk-pop-rock band, “The Willows,” with three friends from Evangel.

But that’s a story for another day.

Director of Jazz Studies Joel Griffin passionate about “America’s classical music”

Joel GriffinJoel Griffin is the director of the jazz studies at Evangel University.

Joel Griffin’s turning point came in 1997, during his junior year at Webb City High School, when his band director took him to a music camp that featured Jim Widner’s Big Band.

“I had never been around great live jazz before,” Griffin says.

“They were performing a song called ‘Slim Jim,’ and saxophonist Kim Park took a solo. My mouth dropped open — I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.”

As a promising young saxophonist, Griffin focused like a laser on the art of jazz. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees while performing every chance he got.

Evangel University Jazz Orchestra The Evangel University Jazz Orchestra will perform in concert Tuesday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barnett Fine Arts Center.

“I learned early that it’s not enough to be inspired, but you also have to have direction,” Griffin says. “I was fortunate to have great teachers like Randy Hamm, who taught me the technical side — how to create a great sound, how to solo.”

Soon, he was performing with jazz legends such as The Cab Calloway Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson and Paul Mckee.

Griffin has also been teaching at the college level for nine years, and is about to wrap up his first year as director of jazz studies at Evangel University.

On Tuesday, April 2, he will direct the Evangel University Jazz Orchestra’s spring concert, at 7:30 p.m., in the Barnett Fine Arts Center. There is no charge, and the public is invited to attend.

“Jazz is America’s classical music,” says Griffin. “Teaching at Evangel is a great opportunity to work with very talented musicians. Teaching them about an art that is so important to this country and culture is an incredible opportunity.”

EU’s Jazz Orchestra performs contemporary compositions as well as jazz classics and sacred jazz arrangements. The ensemble offers students of all majors the opportunity to experience a variety of jazz styles.

“Honestly, this is the job I wanted from the time I graduated high school,” he says. “Evangel has a great group of music students who are eager to learn, and I am challenged by how hard they are willing to work.”

Evangel senior found his life’s passion in music

Colin Knoth and the Boys Choir of SpringfieldThe Boys Choir of Springfield, under the direction of Evangel senior Colin Knoth, looked great on the Sony JumboTron prior to the St. Louis Rams’ home game on December 2, 2012

Imagine standing on the field in the Edward Jones Dome, with the St. Louis Rams just a few feet away and 60,000 people in the stands. That would be cool.

Now imagine you are about to direct the Boys Choir of Springfield there, as they sing the National Anthem on national TV.

For Colin Knoth, that was very cool.

Colin is a senior Music Education major at Evangel University with a very interesting story. Even though he’s played the piano since he was 4, he told people he couldn’t sing. “I never even tried singing until I needed a class without homework during my sophomore year of high school,” he says. It was then that he joined his first choir. “My teacher was very encouraging and really helped to instill confidence in me.”

The next year, he transferred to Kickapoo High School in Springfield, Missouri, and his life was transformed.

“Alberta Smith and Nathan Cornelius were my two high school choral directors. They helped ignite a love for music in me that steered me in the right direction,” Colin says.

Colin Knoth Colin Knoth is an Evangel University senior from Springfield, Missouri. He is majoring in Music Education.

At Evangel, Colin has excelled under the mentorship of the university’s music faculty.

“My freshman year here, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life,” he says. “Now, in my senior year, I am finishing a degree in Music Education, I’m serving as president of the Concert Choir, and I’m involved with the spring musical production of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.”

In December alone, he was able to conduct the EU Concert Choir at Silver Dollar City, the Boys Choir of Springfield at a St. Louis Rams game, and the EU Handbells during the 29th Annual Celebration of Christmas concert.

“God has blessed me so much and has placed the right people in my life along the way to shape my future. If I had not come to Evangel, I would not have had nearly the same amount of opportunities and experiences that I have had,” he says.

Colin’s community volunteer work with the Boy’s Choir of Springfield opened the door to the Rams experience. Boy’s Choir director and Evangel alumnus Mark Lawley had a conflict on that December 2 game day.

“Be safe. Have fun! You will knock it out of the dome,” encouraged Lawley, a 1989 Evangel graduate.

Closer to game time, Lawley texted Colin an encouraging message: “I’ll be praying. God has heard your every word and sensed your worry. Step into it — He will meet you. Trust. Lean. He will be with you. His gifting is at work in you! Go shine!”

“These texts gave me much confidence,” says Colin. “Once we were on the field and in the moment, I felt no worry and not the slightest hint of nervousness. I prayed that the Lord would use this platform to let His light shine, and He blessed us with an amazing performance. It was a moment I will never forget.”

So what was it like to perform there?

“With their right hands on their hearts, the boys sang perfectly,” Knoth says. “It was hard to keep a smile off my face.”

And the topper?

“As we were walking off of the field, a few of the Rams players were giving high fives and handshakes to the boys. The look on their faces was priceless.”

“Teaching is it for me,” Knoth says. “My dream job is to direct a high school choir. I want to influence students’ lives for the better through music, in the same way that I’ve been changed by my teachers in high school and at Evangel.”

– Paul K. Logsdon, director of public relations for Evangel University

Two Music Majors Join the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra

June 8, 2012 (Jackson) - Two Belhaven University music students are on their way to a professional career as musicians with the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra (MSO).

Shellie Brown (’12) and senior Jocelyn Zhu are both violin performance majors who chose to audition at the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra National Audition on May 19. The MSO expanded their search nationally, but found talent from a neighboring university. After two rounds of the audition, they both won the MSO National Audition.

Song Xie, Associate Professor of Music, said, “I am very proud of Shellie and Jocelyn. This is a significant step towards their professional careers a musicians and it also shows the caliber of teaching we give to our music students at Belhaven University.”

Belhaven’s Bachelor of Arts in Music: Performance Emphasis has helped prepare Brown and Zhu to pursue their dreams of performance as a career. Both Brown and Zhu now have a full-time, Core/A contract position and have officially become MSO core players this season with annual salaries and benefits.

The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra started on Belhaven’s campus in 1960 and since then has grown into what it is today, full of talent and eager to share the love of music.
