Fielding alumni and current student to present at upcoming Systems Thinking in Action Conference

Fielding Graduate University alumni Joan Goppelt (HOD '09) and Keith Ray (HOD '09) with Act Too Consulting, Inc., will be presenting with current MOD student Samantha Cooprider with Learning as Leadership at the Systems Thinking in Action Conference November 12-14 in Indianapolis, IN.

Joan and Keith presented the highly successful scholar-practioner class titled Integrating Research & Practice at the last all-school Fielding Summer Session 2012 alumni track to a packed room of Fielding alumni, students, and faculty.

Keith Ray, PhD, has over 20 years of experience in organization development, organizational research, strategic change, project management, software development, and systems engineering. In 2008, he co-founded Act Too Consulting, Inc., which provides organization development and research services to a variety of clients. Keith has a BS in physics and a doctoral degree in human and organizational systems from Fielding Graduate University. Keith is interested in complexity and narrative in organizations.

Joan Goppelt, PhD, has over 25 years of experience in leadership development, organizational change, software development, and project management. In 2008, she co-founded Act Too Consulting, Inc., which provides organization development and research services to a variety of clients. Joan has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, a master’s degree in computer science, and a doctoral degree in human and organizational systems from Fielding Graduate University. Her interests include collaboration, adult learning, and new concepts of leadership.

Samantha Cooprider has been a facilitator, executive coach, and COO with Learning as Leadership (LaL) since 2000. She developed a Leadership in Action course at the University of California, Berkeley, and is a facilitator of LaL’s on-site We Lead leadership training program. Samantha has a BA from the University of California at Berkeley with a focus on leadership organizations and social change and is currently pursuing a master’s in organizational development at Fielding Graduate University.

Sign-ups now open for upcoming Elon Poll

Elon students can volunteer to call North Carolina residents later this month as the Elon University Poll holds its first survey of the spring.

Sunday, February 24 to Thursday, February 28
Academic Village, Gray Pavilion 110

The Elon University Poll is conducting a survey of North Carolina residents beginning Feb. 24 and ending Feb. 28. North Carolinians will be asked about their opinions on various state and national issues, such as gun control, voter ID laws, gay marriage and education.

A great opportunity for students

• Participants will get $10 an hour, free pizza, and experience conducting an academic survey (several classes even give extra credit for participating)
• The Elon University Poll has been conducting public opinion research since 2000 and is committed to the university’s goal of promoting civic engagement and experiential learning where “students learn through doing.”
• Survey results from the Elon Poll are used by academics, policymakers, and the media and have appeared in numerous local, state, national and international news reports.

When?

• Sunday, February 24, from 1-6 p.m.
• Monday, February 25, from 4:30-9 p.m.
• Tuesday, February 26, from 4:30-9 p.m.
• Wednesday, February 27, from 4:30-9 p.m.

Ana Catalina Ramirez, Principal Clarinetist of the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra presents an evening of Latin American chamber music. Dr. Stephen Sachs is her accompanist. An internationally known artist from Oxford, MS whose work is best described as figurative, he concerns himself with the representation of political and social realities. He is included in Who’s Who in American Art and studied on a Group Studies Fulbright Grant in Costa Rica, Central America, received the 1993 Visual Art Award of the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters, and an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Mississippi Arts Commission.

Upcoming Theatre Production: As It Is In Heaven

April 3, 2009–The Belhaven College Theatre Department announces its production of As It Is In Heaven, a play by Arlene Hutton. The show will run on April 16-18 and 22-25, 2009. Directed by Sarah Coury, this production is set in the early 1800s in a Shaker-ville in Pleasant Hill, Kentucky. The play takes place during a period in time known as “Mother Ann’s Work,” when traditional Shaker worship practices were challenged by new revelations led by a younger and newer Shaker generation. Central to the play are themes of relationship to both God and man, and the personal faith and peace required at times to reconcile the two to each other. General Admission $10, Students/Seniors $5. 7:30 pm, Belhaven College Center for the Arts, Flexible Theatre.
