By Mike Lesczinski, Excelsior Life News Staff—

Excelsior College today announced that faculty member Nancy Smulsky, PhD has been named one of the “Top 50 Innovators in Education.” Smulsky’s selection was announced as part of the “Technology Innovation in Education: 2012 Yearbook,” a research report from the Center for Digital Education and Converge.

The 2012 Yearbook “aims to support and inspire education leaders on their paths to a more digital education… (the report) highlights 50 education innovators that have led the way and provided best practice models to imitate.”

Smulsky was honored for her advocacy on behalf of student-faculty interaction via online learning environments, the co-development of an online Capstone retreat for graduate nursing students in response to rising enrollments and increased travel costs, and the findings in her dissertation research “Measuring Student-Faculty Interaction for Nontraditional College Students: A Comparison of data Collection Tools,” among a host of other initiatives.

Smulsky’s work was recently featured in the Excelsior Life piece earlier this December: Online Education: Why We Need to Reform Contemporary Methods of Assessing Faculty-Student Interaction.
